Caciorgna Pietro
Pietro Caciorgna is a winemaker originally from the Marche region who has established himself in Tuscany and today produces great wines on Etna and in the province of Siena, driven by the desire to reveal the vocation of two of the most prestigious wine-growing territories in all of Italy. The historic winery is located in the municipality of Casole d’Elsa, where the Caciorgna family has lived since 1953, dedicating themselves to the cultivation of fruits and vegetables and the breeding of Chianina cattle. In 2004, Pietro made his first harvest intended for commercialization and no longer for self-consumption, managing the estate together with his wife Elda. Two years later, he arrived on Etna, after being invited by the famous producer Marco de Grazia, he fell in love with this unique land and decided to purchase a small vineyard of Nerello Mascalese in the municipality of Castiglione di Sicilia.
In Tuscany, Pietro Caciorgna cultivates just over 2 hectares of Sangiovese planted on slightly sandy volcanic soils, within the small cru Osteria delle Macchie, at an altitude of 250 meters. Instead, on Etna, vineyards of Nerello Mascalese and Carricante are cultivated at altitudes between 700 and 800 meters above sea level, in the municipalities of Castiglione di Sicilia and Randazzo, where the soils are characterized by the abundant presence of black sand and minerals. A cornerstone of Pietro's viticultural spirit is to produce in respect for the environment, thus excluding the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides. At the same time, in the winery, the most modern tools and technologies in the sector are used. For the reds, fermentation takes place in steel, while aging occurs in French oak barriques, either first or more passes.
