The Calafè winery is located behind the magnificent city of Naples, in the hinterland of Campania, in the mountainous region of Irpinia, within the vast province of Avellino, which has been devastated by terrible earthquakes in the past. This is where the long-standing dream of Benito Petrillo, who for years owned a well-known bookshop in the centre of the provincial capital, came true. The great passion and patience that was needed for publishing, and the long-term investments were attitudes that, in every sense, also found fertile ground in the wine industry. The evolution caused by the passing of time, the patient improvement of oneself, the characteristics of transformation that positively meet the public's taste and the values in the world of books are not far from those needed to be successful in the wine field.

Calafè is therefore a worthy representative of the area, being a passionate lover of the land in its own right. He bought about two hectares of land in the heart of the Irpinia mountains in 1999. Greco di Tufo and Aglianico, both native vines of this region which have been receiving long-awaited interest in recent years, have their roots in sulphur-rich soil on a sunny hillside near Prata Principato Ultra. The winery is small and manages to exercise meticulous control over the vinification phases, concentrating on maintaining a high quality regime. The grapes undergo alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel tanks at a low temperature and then spend a whole year on the fine lees. During this period, they undergo malolactic fermentation, which refines and softens their sensory characteristics.

Calafè's red and white wines originate from the love that Benito has for his three granddaughters, who decided to use the acronym of their names (Camilla, Laura and Federica) to name his winery. The Greco di Tufo, thanks to this winemaker, is at its best both in the classic version, with its distinctive mineral hints associated with flint and combined with citrus and citric nuances, and in the "Ariavecchia" version, with its strongly sulphur-coloured tones, its freshness softened by ageing and its strong, pleasant sapidity. The passion for books that started with the land and the love for the family are values that provide extraordinary and award-winning wines.
