Camugin
Camugin is a Gin that originates in the stunning landscape of the Ligurian Riviera, particularly in the picturesque fishing village of Camogli. It is in one of the most beautiful corners of the region, always a destination for tourists seeking characteristic local places, that the idea of producing a Gin that could reflect its character and charm came about. Since 1960, the Revello family has been involved in the restaurant business in Camogli, striving to carry on the ancient traditions of local cuisine and enhancing local products. One of their ancestors is also credited with the creation of the Originali Camogliesi al Rum, typical sweets still made today according to the ancient recipe in an artisanal way.
The idea of complementing the restaurant business with the production of a distillate came from Umberto Revello, a representative of the last generation of the family. Driven by a great passion for the world of Gin, he has embraced the latest trends in the spirits world by proposing a label with an original face, capable of highlighting the peculiarities of the area of Camogli. In recent years, in fact, the presence of locally inspired bottles has increased in the market. Inspired by the indispensable English model of London Dry Gin. These are interpretations of the famous distillate, aiming at the enhancement of local botanicals, in order to create versions of Gin with a unique and unmistakable profile, capable of expressing the scents and aromas of the production area.
The inspiration for Camugin comes from the atmosphere that can be felt in Camogli. Here, the spontaneous vegetation of the Mediterranean scrub mixes with the balsamic notes of maritime pines, the woods of the Apennine hinterland, the citrus groves, and the characteristic iodine and briny notes of the sea. In 2020, the project came to life, starting from a selection of botanicals that includes: marjoram, thyme, rosemary, medicinal herbs, aromatic herbs, sea salt, and the inevitable juniper berries. For the name, the term traditionally used in the local jargon to refer to the inhabitants of Camogli was chosen, or in antiquity Camóggi, meaning piled-up houses.one on top of the other. The Gin is an immersion in the caruggi of the ancient village, in the breath of the sea that envelops the town and leaves an unforgettable memory.
