Camus
Camus is a great name in Cognac, a family distillery active for 5 generations that has managed to create a unique and well-recognizable style, indissolubly linked to the oldest traditions of the Charente. It was founded in 1863 by the intuition of the winemaker distiller Jean-Baptiste Camus, who devised a consortium of the best winemakers in the region to secure the best raw materials and thus produce excellent distillates, marketed, at the time only in barrels, with the label “Camus La Grande Marque”. Today this glorious family tradition is carried on by Cyril Camus, who deserves credit for having created prestigious cognacs from single family vineyards, located in the cru in the Borderies and Bois à terroirs. Among these stand out, for their pleasantly saline and iodized characteristics that give the distillate, the vineyards of Île de Ré, in Charente Maritime.
The Camus family has always considered itself a family of winemakers: the attachment to the land of origin, to the peculiarities of the territory and the starting grape are the key to its success. The production process aims at the continuous search for maximum aromatic finesse through a slow and meticulous double distillation. To ensure the preservation of the fresh and fruity aromas of the distillate, the maitre de chai personally selects each oak barrel, favoring woods with the finest and lightest tannins, capable of imparting richness and roundness without the aromatic excesses due to the wood.
The Cognacs of Camus are born from the skillful blending of the best aged eaux-de-vie. Elegance, warmth, softness, and complexity are the main characteristics of these distillates, each endowed with its own personality and particular characteristics, always linked to the traditional, excellent, and inimitable style perfected by the Camus family in 150 years of experience.
