Cantina Sannas

In the heart of Barbagia, in Mamoiada, Cantina Sannas was founded in 2016, a young and enterprising reality that is quickly gaining a prominent place in the Sardinian and national wine scene. It was founded by Piergraziano Sanna, who after years spent away from the countryside, decided to change his life and fully dedicate himself to wine. He purchased a hectare of vineyard and a small house in the historic center of the village, and began a journey deeply connected to the territory, nature, and Sardinian culture. Mamoiada, located about 650-700 meters above sea level, stands out for its unique characteristics: altitude, climate, and granite soils give the grapes exceptional quality, making it the ideal ground for the cultivation of Cannonau and, to a lesser extent, the rare Granazza, an indigenous white grape variety. In this context, Cantina Sannas presents itself as an artisanal and identity project, enhancing peasant traditions through a personal and creative approach, giving voice to a deep and authentic Sardinia.

The work in the vineyard and in the winery follows a respectful artisanal philosophy: no chemical treatments, not even copper or sulfur, and all operations are carried out manually, from pruning to harvesting. The old bush-trained vines coexist with the new vineyards cultivated with the same traditional system, while the granite soil, crumbly and rich in stones, gives the wines freshness and minerality. During vinification, Piergraziano combines ancient and experimental techniques: fermentation occurs spontaneously with indigenous yeasts in large plastic vats, with frequent manual punch-downs using a chestnut stick. The wines remain in contact with the skins for several days before pressing, which is done with a vertical hydraulic press at 80 bar. Transfers are kept to a minimum, aging takes place in used wooden barrels, and a minimal amount of sulfur is used only at bottling. The result is pure, artisanal wines, intensely territorial, reflecting the genuineness of the agricultural gesture and the depth of the terroir of Mamoiada.

The labels produced by Cantina Sannas are true liquid stories. Piergraziano Sanna stands out for a craft and spontaneous style, which favors unfiltered wines, without invasive wood, dynamic and deeply expressive. With authenticity and courage, Cantina Sannas fully establishes itself among the most interesting realities of the new Italian wine craftsmanship.
