Cantine del Notaio

Cantine del Notaio undoubtedly represents one of the wine-growing excellences of Basilicata, which has had the merit of showcasing the thousand facets of the region's flagship black grape: Aglianico. Indeed, this ancient variety, known since the times of Ancient Greece and mentioned by the Roman poet Horace, stands out for its astonishing enological versatility as well as for the precious organoleptic attributes of the finished wine. Although the family's winemaking tradition has been passed down for 7 generations, Cantine del Notaio was officially founded in 1998, when Gerardo Giuratrabocchetti began to dedicate himself to the activity that his father had interrupted to pursue a career as a notary. In managing the estate, Gerardo is supported by his wife Marcella Libutti and Luigi Moio, a renowned oenologist and full professor of Oenology at the Federico II University of Naples. The common goal is to enhance Aglianico del Vulture by combining tradition, history, innovation, and the culture of the territory.

The 40 hectares of property are distributed across 7 main plots of the Vulture area, characterized by volcanic soils particularly rich in mineral substances, as well as the presence of tuff at depth, a rock that allows for a constant water supply during the driest periods. The plants are located between 430 and 600 meters above sea level, and some vineyards are over 100 years old. As mentioned, the most cultivated grape is Aglianico, which alone represents about 70% of the vineyard area. The other varieties grown are Moscato Bianco di Basilicata, Malvasia Bianca di Basilicata, Chardonnay, Fiano, and Sauvignon Blanc. The cultivation techniques are inspired by organic and biodynamic criteria, and once ripe, the bunches are hand-picked and carefully selected. Carved into volcanic tuff, the winemaking and aging cellars provide the ideal environment for preserving the wines of Cantine del Notaio, thanks to their ability to maintain temperature and humidity at constant and optimal values throughout the year.

labels is wide and diversified, mainly aimed at revealing the extraordinary versatility of Aglianico, vinified in red, white, rosé, and even sparkling. Typical and classy expressions, capable of transferring the territory of Vulture into the glass.
