Cape Mentelle

The Australian winery Cape Mentelle crafts wines with a full and spicy character that reflect the identity of New World wines. Located in the magnificent wine region of Margaret River, in Western Australia, it was founded in 1970 by David Hohnen, who 15 years later established the renowned New Zealand winery Cloudy Bay, together with his brothers Mark and Giles. Cape Mentelle is one of the so-called "founding five", the five wineries that initiated the wine tradition of Margaret River. Initially, the estate focused on red wines, especially from Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes, but with the expansion of the vineyard area and success in international markets, the winery also strongly invested in other types, such as white and rosé wines. Today, the property belongs to the well-known French group LVMH, already owner of famous wine brands like Château Cheval Blanc, Dom Pérignon, Krug, and Château d'Yquem. The winery's name comes from the nearby cape, called historical varieties used for white wines are Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon.
