Casalpriore
The small Emilia wine-growing reality of Casalpriore stands out for its purely artisanal viticulture approach based on biodynamic agriculture, through which it aims to enhance Lambrusco. It was in 1987 when Gabriele Ronzoni decided to purchase an estate with ancient origins located in San Martino in Rio, between Reggio Emilia and Modena. The structure dates back to the 17th century and is situated in an area historically linked to viticulture. Today, Gianluca Bergianti leads the winery, having continued the work of enhancing the territory and its ancient traditions started by his predecessor, who unfortunately passed away in 2019 after decades of lovingly cultivating this land.
The Casalpriore winery owns just over 5 hectares of vineyards planted on sandy-loamy soils of alluvial origin near the Tresinaro stream, with part of the vines over 65 years old trained to pergola. Here, varieties strongly linked to the Emilian wine tradition such as Lambrusco di Sorbara have found their ideal habitat, the Lambrusco Salamino, Lambrusco Oliva, and Ancellotta, indigenous grape varieties cultivated according to the principles of certified organic agriculture and biodynamics. Also in the winery, the utmost genuineness prevails, with spontaneous fermentations and a refusal of any enological aids and additives, except for very low doses of sulfur dioxide. Likewise, the use of clarification and filtration operations is categorically excluded. The macerations on the skins are brief, in order to preserve the lightness of the finished wine, and the processes of vinification and aging take place in stainless steel tanks, with the slight sparkling achieved according to the Charmat Method or, as in the case of 'Stiolorosso', according to the Ancestral Method.
Casalpriore is the creator of sparkling red wines that impress with their spontaneous and vital authenticity. Labels capable of effectively and unfiltered expressing the character of the place, one of the most suited for Lambrusco.
