The Case Alte winery has been growing grapes for three generations in the town of Camporeale, in the province of Palermo. It all began with Giuseppe Vaccaro, a great connoisseur of the land, who in the early 1950s, in love with his territory, decided to produce the first bottles of wine. Mostly made from Catarratto and Nerello Mascalese grapes, they were vinified in his small cellar, following the tradition of the time, and then sold to the taverns of Palermo. It did not take long for his wines to become successful and highly appreciated. A few years later, in 1963, Giuseppe decided to expand the winery and buy some land in a suitable area of Palermo, the Macellarotto district. In 1986 Giuseppe, spurred on by his recent success and the wine produced from the new estate, decided to expand his holdings again. He purchased 10 hectares and added the Nero d'Avola, Syrah and Grillo grape varieties. Currently, Giuseppe is assisted by his young son Calogero who, following in his father's footsteps, helps him in the vineyard and presents his wines at trade fairs.
The winery of Case Alte, or ''high houses'' in English, is named after the promontory on which it was built. In fact, the centre of the winery is located on a hill overlooking a breathtaking landscape, formed by gentle hills that fade into the horizon to give way to imposing mountain ranges. Amidst the green fields stand ancient villages that have always coexisted in these old lands, where it appears that human intervention has never existed. The winery has been supporting environmental sustainability for several years and cultivates its vines organically. The wines of Case Alte are an expression of the territory and demonstrate a great love for the land.
