Castello del Trebbio - Le Anfore
The Castello del Trebbio is located in Pontassieve, in the classic area of Rufina in Chianti and represents one of the most interesting realities of the territory for the quality of its wines and for a particularly respectful approach to nature. The Baj Macario family purchased the estate in 1968, with the intent to create a winery that was a true expression of the best traditions of Chianti. The origins of the Castello di Trebbio are very ancient and are linked to the history of the Pazzi family, wealthy Florentine bankers, who from the 12th century managed the property of the Castle and the adjoining lands, until their fall from grace after the failure of the famous "Pazzi Conspiracy" of 1478 against their rival, the Medici family.
Today the estate of Castello di Trebbio is a model farm that manages all agricultural activities according to the principles of the Bio-integrale protocol. It is a way of cultivating the land inspired by biodynamic practices, combined with a particular attention to eco-sustainability.general, through the use of only renewable energies. An ethical approach to agriculture, which considers the protection of the environment as the primary value of every human activity, which must take place in full respect and harmony with nature. All synthetic products are banned and the vineyard is considered as part of a larger ecosystem, in which the preservation of the natural vitality of the soil and a rich biodiversity contribute to the quality of the grapes and wines.
The vineyards are surrounded by over 100 hectares of forest and are cultivated with the historically present grape varieties in the area: Sangiovese, Trebbiano, to which the international Merlot and Syrah have been added. The careful management of the vineyards allows for the harvesting of healthy and genuine grapes, which are vinified with the utmost respect for the raw material, using non-invasive winemaking practices. For aging, time is allowed to take its course, respecting the natural evolution of the wines, using not only steel tanks but also large Slavonian oak barrels, tonneaux, barriques, and terracotta containers.
