Castelvecchio is a winery set in the beautiful natural environment of the Gorizia Karst, more precisely near the town of Sagrado. The strong Slovenian influence in this area is explicated not only by the recognition and protection of the language, but also in the wine culture and traditions. A territory that has always had a vocation for viticulture, it has been able to attract the attention of Leopoldo Terraneo, founder of the winery, who fell in love with the Venetian Villa of Torre Hohelohe, which in the 1980s was totally converted to a farm that would enhance the Karst terroir. He has managed, for decades now, to express the strong and identifiable classic personality through particularly original labels, behind which there is often a great search for perfection.

Castelvecchio's reds and whites are made both from international grape varieties and, especially, from indigenous grapes, including Vitovska, Malvasia Istriana and Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso. Among the 120 hectares owned by the winery, located within a Natural Park composed by limestone rock and red earth soils, 35 hectares certified organic are dedicated to vines over 35 years old, surrounded by a unique biodiversity consisting of olive groves and fruit trees. Of particular interest is the presence of the renowned Bora, a lashing wind that blows through the plants, keeping them healthy and warding off the attack of harmful molds. Harvesting is done manually and the vinification phase is carried out by selected yeasts, inside stainless steel tanks, which strongly emphasize the typical characteristics of the varietal, which are intended to be given special emphasis.

The result is wines that Castelvecchio manages to make particularly pleasant, fresh and persistent. Often, the mineral character that the grapes like to inherit from these particular soils can be found in these labels. Of particular interest is the Malvasia "Dileo" to which two types of ripening are applied: a part of the bunches is partially cut and left to dry on the vine, the others are left and slightly overripe, so as to obtain a white wine with a unique and complex character. A confirmation that every year comes almost spontaneously, at the karst lands, a chance worth taking advantage of.
