Cattier

Cattier is a family Maison based in Chigny Les Roses, near Ludes, in the heart of the Montagne de Reims region. Its origins are ancient, dating back to 1625, when the ancestors of the Cattier family were already dedicated to viticulture. Today, at the helm of the company is Alexandre Cattier, representative of the thirteenth generation of vignerons, who passionately carries on the ancient traditions with the aim of passing down a precious heritage of experiences and savoir faire. The history of the Maison is encapsulated in the caves of Rilly-la-Montagne, excavated 150 years ago on three levels, descending to a depth of 30 meters. The galleries can hold over two million bottles, which mature in ideal conditions of temperature and humidity.

The Domaine Cattier consists of 33 hectares, all classified as Premier Cru, located in the municipalities of Chigny-les-Roses, Ludes, and Rilly-la-Montagne. The vineyards represent the true heritage of the Maison and since the 1990s have been managed with a growing attention to the environment, striving to minimize treatments. This journey has led to obtaining the certifications of Haute Valeur Environnementale and Viticulture durable de Champagne. Within the estate, the vines of Clos du Moulin stand out, a plot of just over 2 hectares, half planted with Chardonnay and half with Pinot Noir, which was purchased in the 1950s. The extraordinary quality of the grapes has prompted the Maison to vinify separately to create a special label, which still today represents the pinnacle of the Maison.

The spirit of the Maison is today perfectly interpreted by Alexandre Cattier, who after studying oenology at the University of Reims and gaining work experience in Australia, began to learn from his father the secrets of the art of blending, in order to ensure the continuity of the Cattier style. The Maison works with the three classic grape varieties of Champagne: Chardonnay, Meunier, and Pinot Noir, but the latter plays a particularly important role in the creation of the cuvées, which perfectly reflect the vocation of the Montagne de Reims region. The skillful use of reserve wines and a minimum aging on the lees of 4 years, produces Champagnes that skillfully combine elegance, freshness, and complexity.
