Chalong Bay

From distant Thailand come the products of Chalong Bay Rum, an Eastern reality that offers rums with an original personality made according to artisanal practices. The distillery is located in the province of Phuket, in the southern part of the country, where, combining vision and passion, the Chalong Bay team adopts a traditional distillation technique while observing the utmost respect for the ecosystem, aiming to enhance the rich sugarcane heritage of Thailand, as the country boasts over 200 varieties of sugarcane. The name of this production reality comes from Chalong Bay, the site of the distillery, with the Thai term “chalong” meaning “celebration”, chosen precisely to celebrate the authentic tradition of rum and the local culture. In the production of its rums, Chalong Bay has selected the best indigenous varieties of sugarcane, cultivated by local farmers using traditional methods without the use of pesticides and chemical fertilizers. The the harvesting of the mature plant is done by hand, in order to preserve the integrity of the plant, and the sugarcane is then immediately pressed to extract the sugary juice contained within. The liquid then undergoes alcoholic fermentation, a key step in determining the quality and aromatic style of the rum. For the subsequent distillation process, an ancient traditional copper still imported from France is used, adopting a distillation technique dating back over 100 years. The rums are finally left to rest for at least 8 months before manual bottling and final marketing. The rums from the Chalong Bay distillery are characterized by their evocative tropical aromatic profile capable of recalling the breathtaking landscapes of the province of Phuket. The range includes rums with a more classic style, such as the ‘Pure Series’, and others that are decidedly original, such as the ‘White Spiced’, made through the distillation of sugarcane with 9 Thai botanicals.
