Château de Laubade

Chateau de Laubade represents a French production reality dedicated to the processing of fine Bas-Armagnac according to an ecological approach. Founded back in 1870 by the great French statesman Joseph Noulens along with his wife Jeanne Paquin, a famous fashion designer, the estate is located within the municipality of Sorbets, in the heart of the Bas-Armagnac production area, and has been run by the Lesgourgues family for three generations. Today, Denis Lesgourgues is at the helm of the Château, assisted by his sister Jeanne and brother Arnaud, a trio that nurtures the family tradition with the aim of creating the finest Armagnac using ancient production techniques, always respecting the environment and with an eye on innovation.

The Chateau de Laubade distillery cultivates within its 105 hectares of vineyards grapes of the varieties Ugni Blanc, Folle Blanche, Colombard, and Baco, from which the wines destined for distillation are obtained. The vines, situated in a single block surrounding the estate, are cultivated according to sustainable practices and benefit from both the climate oceanic climate of the area and the sandy-clay matrix of the soils. The wines used as a base for the Bas-Armagnac are processed without added sulfites and are distilled immediately after the fermentation process under the supervision of the master distiller, who adapts the operations according to the vintage, always with the aim of maximizing the extraction of aromatic compounds. The distillation phase takes place through a unique continuous system within a large still dating back to 1974 and custom-built. The long aging periods, ranging from 12 to even 300 months, take place in Gascogna barriques made from the woods surrounding the estate, directly selected by the Maître de Chai. In the aging environment, which is always ventilated, conditions of low and high humidity alternate, and the use of new and old barrels, with the final phase consisting of tasting the distillates to determine the best blend.
