Château de Roquefort
The French production reality of Chateau de Roquefort is located in Provence, between the Sainte Baume Massif and the national park of the Calanques, in a landscape context of rare harmony and beauty that the winery aims to reveal the fresh and genuine wine-growing aspect. Here, in 1994, the vigneron Raimond de Villeneuve decided to start his wine project driven by his passion for viticulture and love for this territory. However, as early as the 1800s, his predecessors were cultivating this land, passing down the wine art from generation to generation, while the origins of the castle date back to Ancient Rome.
The nearly 30 hectares of vineyards of Chateau de Roquefort are located on rocky plateaus of clay-limestone nature, where the vines, located about 390 meters above sea level with a good portion of the vines exceeding 40 years of age, are cultivated following the principles of certified organic farming and biodynamics. In addition, the exposure to the north and northwest results in an exceptional accumulation of organic acids in the grapes, which translates into great freshness of the finished wine. Based on these environmental and territorial premises, Raimond cultivates Grenache, Cinsault, Cabernet Sauvignon, Carignan, Syrah, and Mourvèdre for the black grape varieties, and Vermentino, Clairette, and Ugni Blanc among the white grapes. The grapes are hand-picked and vinified in concrete or steel tanks through a minimalist winemaking approach.
There are five emblematic labels from the Chateau de Roquefort winery: the reds ‘Les Mûres’ and ‘Gueule de Loup’, the whites ‘Les Genêts’ and ‘Petit Salé’, and the rosé ‘Corail’. In the best vintages, these interpretations can be accompanied by other wines. One of the added values of the cuvée from Chateau de Roquefort is the incredible authenticity of each bottle, which is reflected in singular and spontaneous expressions, differing from vintage to vintage but always united by a brilliant freshness, a distinctive trait of the wines of Raimond de Villeneuve.
