Château La Mission Haut-Brion

Château La Mission Haut-Brion is a legendary Bordeaux winery that has been producing wines of rare prestige and elegance for over five centuries within the territory of Pessac-Léognan. The history of the estate, twin sister of Château Haut-Brion, another famous wine reality of Bordeaux, begins in the 16th century when Arnaud de Lestonnac purchased a piece of land then known as Arregedhuys, starting to dedicate himself to wine production. The definitive and splendid consecration came as a result of the work of the Vincentian friars, who from 1682 promoted and developed viticulture throughout the Graves territory, creating vineyards from woods and marshes and building buildings specifically designed for the winemaking process. In the first half of the 1900s, new modernization works on the vineyards and structures were carried out by the Woltner family, great innovators in the wine sector. In 1983, the Château was finally sold to Domaine Clarence Dillon, owner of Château Haut-Brion since 1935 and currently still at the helm of the two iconic realities. Due to the excellent quality level of its wines, Château La Mission Haut-Brion is considered the sixth Premier Grand Cru Classée of Bordeaux, unofficially since the classification of Bordeaux wines dates back to 1855 and has hardly ever been revised.

The vineyards of Château La Mission Haut-Brion extend over 29 hectares at the gates of Bordeaux, in the village of Talence, on soils consisting of a rich layer of gravel placed above a clayey, sandy, and calcareous matrix. Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot are the main varieties of the estate, followed by Cabernet Franc and the white grape varieties Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc. For aging, small French oak barrels are used as per tradition, with a percentage of new wood ranging from 20% to 60% depending on the wine in question.
