Château Saint-Genes

Château Saint-Genès is part of the properties of the Joseph Janoueix family, which for over a century has cultivated vineyards and produced great wines in the Libournais area, within the Bordeaux region. Joseph Janoueix owns several domaines: three Châteaux are located in the municipality of Pomerol, seven in the Saint-Émilion area, two in the Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux area, and four in the territory of the Appellation Bordeaux Supérieur. The origins of the winery date back to the end of the 19th century when Jean Janoueix began dealing in wine commerce. The next generation embarked on the path of viticulture, acquiring the prestigious properties of the Grands Crus Classés of Château Haut-Sarpe in Saint-Émilion and Châteaux La Croix and La Croix Saint Georges in Pomerol. Over the years, the domaine has continued to grow with further acquisitions, becoming one of the most important realities in the area.

Château Saint-Genès is located in the area that stretches from Saint-Émilion towards Castillon, passing through Saint-Christophe-des Bardes, Saint-Etienne-de-Lisse, and Saint Magne. The name of the domaine derives from the protector of this territory, Saint-Genès, an actor from ancient Rome, who after converting to the Christian faith was killed as a martyr under the reign of Emperor Diocletian. The estate covers 9 hectares and is located in the municipality of Saint-Etienne-de-Lisse, in the Saint-Émilion area. The vineyards are cultivated at an altitude of 500 meters above sea level, on a rather steep slope, characterized by clay-limestone soils in the higher part and clay soils in the lower area.

As per the tradition of the area, the vineyard is composed of 70% Merlot, which gives the wines the richness and softness of the fruit, and the remaining 30% Cabernet Franc, which contributes to the elegance, with its aromatic finesse and freshness. The wines are the perfect synthesis of the characteristics of the terroir and the two noble grape varieties. The harvests are carried out at full ripeness, and after careful vinifications, the wine ages for a long time in French oak barrels. The labels of Château Saint-Genès are a guarantee of high quality and faithfully represent the characteristics of the place.
