Domaine Claude Dugat is a small family-owned and operated six hectares of vineyards in Gevrey-Chambertin. The estate is located in the Côte de Nuits territory, the northernmost part of the Burgundy vineyard, which has always been the cradle of extraordinary Pinot Noir. Founded after World War II, the Domaine and conducted with extreme care and passion. In the countryside, work is done with full respect for nature and the use of chemical preparations, herbicides and pesticides has long been banned. The principles of organic farming are followed, with the use of biodynamic preparations as well. Horses are also used in the vineyard, so as to avoid pressing and compacting the soils by mechanical means and leave the soils soft and rich in spontaneous vitality.
The domaine is located in a particularly prestigious area that has always been prized for producing wines of great finesse and elegance. The estate vineyards are cultivated near the village of Gevrey-Chambertin, immediately north of Morey-Saint-Denis. The vineyards are located in the hillside between 280 and 380 meters above sea level and enjoy a wonderful east-facing exposure. The cool climate, always very breezy, and soils of a predominantly limestone matrix, with the presence also of silt and marl components rich in marine fossils, make it possible to bring to maturity bunches of Pinot Noir of excellent quality, with intense and elegant aromas.
Harvests are carried out with selection of the best bunches in the vineyard, and the quality of the grapes is then scrupulously rechecked on the sorting tables before fermentations, which are carried out parcel by parcel, so that the particular nuances of an extraordinary terroir can be brought out, with labels dedicated to the Grand Crus of Charmes-Chambertin and Griottes-Chambertin and the Premier Cru of Gevrey-Chambertin Lavaux-St-Jacques. Winemaking is conducted in the best artisanal traditions, and the wines mature in oak barrels for about a year before bottling. A great interpreter of the Gevrey-Chambertin Appellation, Domaine Claude Dugat is distinguished by a classic and elegant style, with harmonious and long-lived wines.
