Clos des Jacobins
Clos de Jacobins is a Grand Cru Classé located just before reaching Saint-Émilion. Clos de Jacobins was classified in 1955, when the Saint-Émilion ranking was established. We are in the prestigious wine-growing area of Bordeaux, one of the most famous in the world, particularly in the Libournais region, located north of the Dordogne. It is an area renowned for its great Merlot, which, thanks to the favorable soils and a particular microclimate, achieve levels of absolute and unparalleled excellence. The estate's vineyard covers a total of 8 and a half hectares and has preserved its unity and fame over the centuries, making it still one of the most valuable plots in the area.
The vineyard of Clos de Jacobins has an average age of about 30 years and is planted with 80% Merlot, 18% Cabernet Franc, and 2% Cabernet Sauvignon, perfectly in line with the tradition of this Bordeaux area, dominated by the presence of Merlot. The vines are cultivated on soils predominantly composed of limestone-clay soils and enjoy a favorable southern exposure, which promotes excellent sun exposure and grape ripening. Harvesting is done manually, and the grapes are further selected on the sorting table before undergoing a pre-fermentation cold maceration. Fermentations take place in concrete and wood, and the wines then mature in French oak barrels.
The Clos de Jacobins winery ensures great consistency in the quality of its wines over the years, the result of very careful vineyard work and timely and precise choices of the grape harvest period, to achieve the right balance between aromatic richness, fruit maturity, and freshness. The particular position of the vineyard yields wines that are quite ready in their early years and not too severe or austere in profile. They are labels with an elegant and harmonious charm, enveloping and rich, captivating for their persistence and length. Clos de Jacobins wines have great structure, a dense tannic texture, and possess a remarkable aging potential.with very interesting tertiary evolutions.
