Colombo Gian Luca
Gian Luca Colombo is an enterprising and original winemaker from the Langhe region. His method evolves according to the cycles of the seasons, the moods of the vines and the intuition of those who cultivate them. There are no dogmas or instructions for use: every harvest is an act of agricultural faith, every wine a daring and unrepeatable harmony. Gian Luca works between Novello, Dogliani, Magliano Alfieri and Roddi, where he cultivates native red grape varieties alongside Pinot Noir, with a constant eye on the principles of biodynamics. His philosophy combines numbers and instinct, agronomic rigour and sensitivity, in the search for a balance that changes every year and is reflected in the wines and products of the estate.
Gian Luca Colombo's viticulture is based on sincerity and complexity: to obtain wines with character, excellent ingredients are needed, cultivated in accordance with natural cycles and in search of the authentic essence of each variety. There is no monoculture in the vineyard: each plot also contains vegetable gardens and cereals. Furthermore, all intensive practices are banned, recognising that time is the true protagonist of agricultural work. Life is continuous movement, never monotonous. In the cellar, he chooses macerations between 22 and 40 days at a controlled temperature, then ages the wine in large Austrian oak barrels and, in some vintages, in terracotta. No forcing, no acceleration.
Gian Luca Colombo's wines are born from the desire to bottle the unique characteristics of the grape variety, the territory and the vintage. His work is not simply about producing wine, but about interpreting the vineyards and transferring what they express into the glass, without filters. In addition to the native grape varieties that tell the story of the land and traditions of Barbera d'Alba, Pelaverga di Verduno and Barolo, Gian Luca uses another grape variety to speak of Langa: Pinot Noir. For him, this variety represents a 'daily lesson in humility': Pinot is elusive, honest, sensitive and often stronger than those who cultivate it. In Langa, it puts arrogance into perspective and rewards with an extraordinary ability to tell the story of the soil from which it is born.
