Domaine Tissot
Domaine Tissot is located in the French region of Jura and produces genuine wines, following the traditions of the territory. The estate was founded in 1962 by André and Mireille in Montigny-les-Arsures, just a short walk from Arbois, with the desire to cultivate the grape varieties historically present for centuries in these lands, to highlight their true potential. The Jura vineyard was famous as early as the Middle Ages, when the wines of the region were served at the tables of kings and popes. Even today, the best labels from the area are present on the wine lists of the main starred restaurants in France, confirming a quality level that has remained consistently high over the centuries.
The Jura vineyard is only 80 kilometers long and 5 wide, but despite its small size, it produces many wines of remarkable quality and different types: from Crémant to white wines, red wines, and the famous Vin de Paille and Vin Jaune, true gems of the territory. The vines are located at an altitude ranging from 200 to 450 meters above sea level, with sunny exposures facing south and southwest, and are often cultivated on steep slopes that reach up to 40%. The climate is cool and continental, with significant temperature variations between day and night. Geologically, the vineyards occupy the foothills and elevations of the Jurassien plateau. The soils date back to the Mesozoic and are the result of sedimentation on ancient seabeds, which were then uplifted and brought to the surface during the collision of tectonic plates that led to the rise of the Alpine chain.
The estate covers 35 hectares and has long been managed sustainably. Since the 1990s, there has been a gradual abandonment of chemical substances, leading to the embrace of the principles of organic farming and biodynamic principles, with Demeter certification obtained in 2004. The vines are located in some of the most prized areas of the region: Curon, La Mailloche, Les Bruyères, and Château-Chalon and are cultivated with Chardonnay, Savagnin, Pinot Noir, Poulsard, and Trousseau. In line with agronomic management, very simple winemaking techniques are also used in the cellar, with spontaneous fermentations, the use of only indigenous yeasts, and the addition of very low percentages of sulfur.
