Domaine Anne Gros

Domaine Anne Gros is located in Vosne-Romanée, in one of the most famous terroirs of the Côte de Nuits. Its origins date back to 1830, when Alphonse Gros began cultivating these lands. Over the course of the next six generations, the family split into various branches creating four different estates. Anne, after studying viticulture in Beaune and at the University in Dijon, inherited the domaine from her father François in 1988 and in 1995 changed the name of the property from “Anne et François Gros” to “Anne Gros”. Today her three children, Julie, Paul, and Marine, who represent the seventh generation, are beginning to take care of the property, continuing a centuries-old family tradition.

The original core of the property had an area of 3 hectares, which has become 6.5 with the acquisition of the Vosne Les Barreaux parcels and with the new vineyards planted in the area of the regional appellation Bourgogne and in the area of the Hautes Côte de Nuits. From an agronomic point of view, the estate is managed according to the general principles of sustainable agriculture, using organic and biodynamic practices. The territory of the Appellation Vosne-Romanée includes 14 Classified Premier Cru Climats and 6 Grand Cru among the most famous in the entire Côte d'Or. The vineyards are located on the slope that rises towards the hilltops, with an exposure mainly facing southeast, east. The soils are composed of limestone mixed with reddish clay marl and are shallow, particularly suited for the cultivation of Pinot Noir.

With maximum attention given to the vineyard and the harvest of perfectly ripe and healthy grapes, there follows an equally careful work in the cellar. The Pinot Noir grapes are completely destemmed and fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, with a maceration on the skins of about three weeks. According to tradition, the wines mature in French oak barriques for about 14 months.  The Chardonnay grapes, on the other hand, are immediately pressed and the must begins fermentation in steel and then finishes in wood. Also the aging of the whites takes place in barriques. The wines have a classic and traditional face and are sold, in addition to France, all over the world.
