Domaine de Courcel

The Domaine de Courcel is located in Pommard, in the heart of the Côte de Beaune, in one of the most famous terroirs in the world for the production of extraordinary reds based on Pinot Noir. Its territory hosts the famous Premier Crus of: Le Grand Clos des Epenots, Les Rugiens, Les Frémiers, and Les Croix Noires. The Domaine de Courcel was founded in the distant 17th century and still retains the family character of its origins and the ancient traditional savoir-faire, carefully passed down from generation to generation as a precious heritage. The estate covers a total of about ten hectares and is located a few kilometers south of the town of Beaune.

As is customary for almost all the Domains of Burgundy, the property is divided into many small parcels, 75% of which are classified as Premier Cru. To highlight the particular nuances of the terroir, each vineyard is vinified separately, and this fragmentation is perfectly reflected in the range of labels. The Domaine de Courcel produces, in fact, seven different wines, all originating from Climat from Pommard. The vineyards are located in two different areas: south of the village, on the hill between Pommard and Volney, and to the north, on the hill between Pommard and Beaune. The Domaine has the largest area of Premier Cru vineyards in Pommard, with plots of the highest quality. About half of the vineyards are located in the Premier Cru Le Grand Clos des Epenots, among the most prestigious terroirs in the entire area.

In the countryside, traditional cultivation practices are used, respectful of the vine and the environmental ecosystem, with high planting density and very low yields. The harvests take place at full phenolic maturity of the grapes, in order to obtain very rich and intense aromas. The grapes are rigorously selected in the vineyard and then on the sorting table, before proceeding to fermentation. The vinifications of Pinot Noir are carried out as whole clusters, without destemming the grapes, and at low temperatures with very gentle extractions. The aging takes place in carefully selected French oak barriques for a period of about two years. The total production is around 30,000 bottles.annual.
