Domaine de la Renardiere
Jean Michel Petit is a unique character with a great personality, endowed with inexhaustible energy and an extraordinary mind. He is the owner of Domaine de la Renardiere, one of the most symbolic realities within the small Jura region, now considered a true benchmark in the world of artisanal wines across the Alps. Sustainability, nature, and territory: these are the cornerstones that have marked Jean Michel's activity since the winery's founding in 1990. First of all in the vineyard through environmentally friendly low-impact viticulture and then in the cellar with limited use of invasive processes. Jean has an American background; as a young man, he learned and studied winemaking techniques in some important companies in California. In 1990, he returned home to his Jura, and with his partner Laurence, they decided to establish the winery, starting from some vineyards owned by Petit’s family.
Today, the Domaine de la Renardiere winery has a vineyard area of 7.5 hectares located among the Jura hills. Jean Michel loves his territory and knows perfectly the history and composition of each soil; he knows in detail what the blue marls of Lias can give to the wine, what nuances the red marls provide, and which grape variety is best suited to grow on the gray marls. A true ambassador of the territory, who has concentrated all his efforts on local grape varieties: Savagnin (the white grape known for its oxidative style), Ploussard (the quintessential native red of the area), and Chardonnay (which has thrived in these lands for centuries). 60% of the cultivated varieties are white grapes, while the remaining part consists of red grapes; all grown with certified organic farming.
The wines of Domaine de la Renardiere have a typically territorial style. They are fresh and rich, tense, vital, and endowed with that unmistakable and marked mineral note that characterizes the wines of this area. Whites, reds, cremant, and oxidative expressions that love nature and portray all its nuances and frames. Original and unique, just like its producer!
