Domaine Hauts de Baigneux

The Domaine Hauts de Baigneux was born from the meeting between Nicolas Grosbois, a winemaker from Chinon, and Philippe Mesnier, who is involved in wine importation in Belgium. The combination brought together Nicolas's experience in the vineyard and cellar with Philippe's commercial vision, who saw the potential of the territory and the opportunity to produce and not just sell wines of great personality. The idea behind this interesting project is to highlight and enhance an area still little known, such as that of the Touraine-Azay-le-Rideau zone, which is located in the heart of the Loire Valley region. The Loire vineyard is very vast and extends from the Atlantic Ocean to the central area of the country.

The Appellation Touraine is among the most famous and important in the Loire Valley. It covers a total area of over 5,000 hectares and winds from Chambord and Azay-le-Rideau, passing through Chenonceaux and Chaumont-sur-Loire. It is an area that can boast ancient origins in the field of viticulture and has been producinggreat wines. The region is located southwest of the famous bassin parisien and is characterized by a plateau with gentle elevations, reaching an altitude of 100-150 meters above sea level. Due to the vastness of the area, the soils are quite heterogeneous, mainly composed of clay with silica components, Miocene sands, calcareous-clay soils, with the presence of gravel and alluvial pebbles. The climate is influenced by a double regime. The continental character is mitigated by the proximity of the Atlantic Ocean, which makes the temperatures milder.

The difference in soils and microclimates within the same region favors the cultivation of numerous varieties, both white and red, which have found in the Loire Valley an ideal habitat to express themselves at excellent qualitative levels. Regarding red grape varieties, the Domaine Hauts de Baigneux cultivates Grolleau and Gamay, especially enhancing their fragrant, crunchy character and immediate expressive freshness, characterized bypleasant spicy notes. Cabernet Franc produces more intense and structured wines, but always characterized by lively aromas of berries and a clear freshness, typical of the terroir. Among the whites, Sauvignon Blanc stands out in particular, producing vibrant, aromatic wines with beautiful taste persistence.
