Domaine Lafage
Domaine Lafage is a family-run production reality located in Perpignan, the capital of the French department of Pyrénées-Orientales. We are within the wine region of Languedoc-Roussillon, more precisely in the Côtes du Rossillon. Here, Jean-Marc Lafage chose to follow in his father's footsteps, and after working as a winemaker in various corners of the world, gaining experience and expertise, he decided to dedicate himself exclusively to the family property. Jean-Marc is not alone in this adventure, as he is still supported by his parents, as well as by his wife Eliane, who is a true partner when it comes to making important decisions. Over the last 10 years, Domaine Lafage has been recognized as one of the most interesting wineries in France, winning several awards and recognitions. For Jean-Marc, however, the excellent scores, more than a destination, represent a continuous stimulus towards experimenting with new production methods, always aiming for the satisfaction of the end consumers.
The vineyards of Domaine Lafage extend over a remarkable area: 160 hectares. However, one should not be deceived by this number, as the terroir is incredibly harsh and dry, and each plant must struggle hard to survive. For this reason, the yields are kept extremely low, never exceeding 20 hectoliters per hectare, thus obtaining less than one bottle of wine for each single plant. The vines wind through three different territories: along the Agly river, towards the Mediterranean Sea, and within the cru of Aspres. Among the rows, those grape varieties that adapt best to these areas are cultivated, such as Grenache, Carignan, Muscat, Mourvèdre, Grenache Blanc, and Grenache Gris. In the vineyard and in the winery, every operation is followed with the utmost attention, starting from a firm point: it is necessary to always respect the original terroir and the grape, using an approach that draws from ancient traditions to look to the future with new goals.
