Domaine de Marcoux

The Domaine de Marcoux is a beautiful family-run estate that produces excellent wines in the wonderful territory of Chateauneuf-du-Pape, near Avignon. The area of the lower Rhône boasts an ancient history in viticulture. The first Phocaean settlements in Marseille date back to 600 B.C., and the vine culture brought by the Greeks later spread throughout southern France during the Roman domination. However, the history of this small village dates back to the 11th century. At that time, it was still called Castrum Novum, a testament to its original nature as a fortified stronghold defending the territory. Only later did it take the name Chateauneuf-du-Pape and experience its peak period of splendor when, from 1309 to 1377, Avignon became the papal seat. The Château was built starting in 1317 and became a summer residence for the Popes and later also a refuge during plagues.

The Armenier family, owners of Domaine Marcoux, has been present in the Chateauneuf-du-Pape area since the 14th century and has maintained a strong and authentic bond with these lands. In 1995, the two of the Appellation, in order to give greater complexity to the wines. The warm and breezy climate is perfect for red grape varieties, which cover almost the entire vineyard area. The most cultivated varieties are Grenache, Mourvèdre, Syrah, Cinsault, and many other local grape varieties, as the regulations of the denomination allow for as many as 13 to produce the red of Chateauneuf-du-Pape.
