Domaine Weinbach
Domaine Weinbach is one of the wine production realities that has become a reference point of Alsace: a renowned name known all over the world. Founded by Capuchin monks in 1612 and considered a national heritage after the French Revolution, the winery has belonged to the Faller family since 1898 and takes its name from a small stream that runs through it.
The vast vineyard heritage that makes up Domaine Winbach extends over 127 hectares in the lands of Altenbourg, Mambourg, Schlossberg, and Forstentum, where the vines are protected from the wind by the hills and enjoy an ideal climate. The vineyards are managed according to biodynamic agriculture methods, with the aim of best expressing the personality of each terroir. In this way, the winery produces authentic and complex wines that reflect the mineral richness of the soils on which the vines grow. The varieties cultivated on the estate are Sylvaner, Pinot Bianco, Moscato, Pinot grigio, Gewürztraminer, Riesling, and Pinot Nero.
In the winery, interventions are kept to a minimum: the grapes undergo a soft and progressive pressing, then they are fermented for a long time with indigenous yeasts in large neutral oak vats, which in some cases can even reach 100 years of age. In this way, the wines mature slowly before being bottled, preserving the primary characteristics of the grapes used.
The Domaine Weinbach winery is certainly among the best in Alsace and among the most famous in the world. Its wines reveal a great personality, played on the aromatic fullness of the fruit and on an intense minerality. They span a wide range of aromas and scents and surprise with their elegance and complexity.
