Don't be fooled by the name, as we are not in Spain, but rather in the Trapanese area of Sicily. The Dos Tierras - Badalucco De La Iglesia Garcia is one of the most compelling and romantic stories of recent years, and a tale with a happy ending, in which love and passion have shaped and coloured the owners' lives. Pierpaolo Badalucco, the main protagonist of this story, studied political science in Sicily as a young man and, once he graduated, decided to pack his bags and leave for a new experience in Spain, in Madrid. There he attended a two-year Master's degree course in Economics with the objective of securing a job in a bank and abandoning the life in the fields that had characterised his family's history. During his studies, he met Beatriz, an Andalusian girl, and fell madly in love with her. A few years later, he also landed the much-desired position at the bank. The story could have ended there, however something was tormenting Pierpaolo: he missed his home, was homesick for the sea and the smell of the countryside. The bank life began to weigh him down and make him increasingly tired. He wanted to return to his native Sicily and he was going to do it with Beatriz. In 2002, Pierpaolo convinced his wife, and the two Badaluccos returned to Petrosino, a seaside town in the province of Trapani, located halfway between Mazara del Vallo and Marsala, and managed to save four hectares of vineyards before their father sold them. Thus a new project was born, to create a bridge between the two cultures. Alongside the classic Sicilian Nero d'Avola and Grillo grapes, the Spanish Verdejo and Tempranillo varieties were planted, creating wines with an Italian-Spanish soul.

The philosophy of the Dos Tierras winery is to respect the environment as much as possible. Invasive chemical treatments in the vineyard are prohibited in order to safeguard the course of nature in the best way possible. Pierpaolo also follows family traditions, and in fact the pressing of the grapes is still done by foot without the use of any technological equipment, but only passion and love. In the cellar, fermentation takes place spontaneously with the help of indigenous yeasts naturally present on the skins, and the ageing takes place in barriques. The wines are therefore territorial and faithful expressions of the territory and exciting representations of Spain on Sicilian soil.

The idea behind Dos Tierras Badalucco De La Iglesia Garcia, as already mentioned, is to create pure, artisanal wines with an Italo-Iberian identity, which reflect both Pierpaolo's Sicilian character and Beatriz's Spanish spirit. In the red wines, Temprano and Dos Tierras, the freshness and tannin of the Iberian Tempranillo grape merges with the intensity and warmth of the indigenous Nero d'Avola, while in the white versions, the Grillo Verde, which is the sunny Mediterranean variety of the Grillo grape, combines with the saline and taut texture of the Spanish Verdejo. The enological, sentimental and cultural fusion between Spain and Italy is perfectly reflected in the wines of Dos Tierras.
