Pennac Emilia

Since 2010, Emilia Pennac has offered spontaneous and original expressions with an irresistible funky style, created within the small municipality of Torrazza Coste, in the province of Pavia. Behind this Lombard artisanal reality is the love and sensitivity of Silvia Giani, owner and winemaker who loves to define her winery as “biodiverse”. Her passion for the wine world was passed down from her father in the 1970s when, precisely in 1972, he planted half a hectare of Bonarda, initially intended for personal consumption. However, over the years, what started as a simple passion transformed into something more, and during that time, Silvia already learned to control spontaneous fermentations, producing authentic wines without resorting to enological artifices. In 2010, after a series of experiences elsewhere, she took the reins of the winery, acquiring new hectares without giving up on craftsmanship, which indeed became even more of a creed.

The 12 hectares of vineyards of Emilia Pennac are spread over 16 different plots, heterogeneous in terms of soil, altitude, and exposure. The cultivated varieties, numerous and differentiated by characteristics, are: Cortese, Riesling Renano, Pinot Grigio, Moscato, and Chardonnay for white grapes, Croatina, Barbera, Pinot Nero, and Uva Rara among the black grape varieties. The principle around which the entire production revolves is that of biodiversity. Following this noble value, agronomic practices such as cover cropping and mulching are adopted in the field, while minimizing pest control interventions thanks to the use of natural products aimed at promoting the plants' self-defense. In the winery, fermentations are conducted exclusively by indigenous yeasts, and no filtration of the musts is performed.

Silvia, assisted by her husband Jacopo, produces only 10,000 bottles a year. Labels of highly diversified types, ranging from “classic” still white and red wines to dynamic and irresistible bottle-fermented wines, including intriguing orange wine.
