Emmanuel Rouget

The Domaine Emmanuel Rouget is a prominent name in the Côte de Nuits, an area in the northern part of Burgundy that has Pinot Noir as its emblematic variety. The winery is located exactly in the municipality of Flagey-Echézeaux, between the villages of Vosne-Romanée and Vougeot, where Emmanuel Rouget began his personal winemaking adventure in 1985. Emmanuel was heavily influenced by his uncle Henri Jayer, one of the historical names in Burgundy enology, who in 1976 hired his nephew, who began to assist him in the vineyard and in the cellar. Nine years later, Emmanuel started marketing the first labels under his own name, while in 1996, Uncle Henri transferred the ownership of his vineyards to him, assisting him in production until 2002. Since 2011, the management of the Domaine has passed to Nicolas and Guillaume Rouget, sons of Emmanuel, the first mainly involved in the agronomic aspect while the second is responsible for the winemaking.

Pinot Noir is the variety that dominates the vineyards of the Domaine Rouget, cultivated through an agronomic management that follows the principles of Henri Jayer, namely very low yields and no use of pesticides and herbicides in the vineyards, thus respecting the health of the soil and the environment in general. The harvest is done entirely by hand and the grapes undergo a double selection, with the bunches first being destemmed and then subjected to a cold pre-fermentation maceration. Fermentation takes place in concrete tanks while the subsequent aging period occurs in new French oak barrels, containers where the wines often mature for 20 months or even longer.

The labels of Domaine Emmanuel Rouget can boast prestigious and renowned AOCs such as Vosne-Romanée and Echezeaux, but also Savigny-les-Beaune, Nuits-Saint-Georges, and Côtes de Nuits. In particular, the legendary vineyard of the Domaine is undoubtedly the Vosne-Romanée Cros Parantoux, planted by Henri Jayer in 1953 and now cultivated and vinified with the same passion by Nicolas and Guillaume Rouget. In general, they are full, structured, and elegant expressions, an authentic reflection of the belonging climat, sought after by enthusiasts and collectors from all over the world.
