Eric Dubois
Eric Dubois is the owner of the small artisanal winery Chateau La Franchaie, which he manages with authenticity according to the principles of biodynamics, without artifice or sophistication, creating wines that reflect his genuine personality. The Domaine, located in La Possonnière, a town in the Anjou area, was established in 2017 when Eric, a former winemaker at Clos Cristal from 1995 to 2016, one of the most renowned biodynamic wineries in the Loire, after extensive research in France and other countries, identified this area as ideal for his project. The fundamental premises guiding the research were to find clustered vineyards located in an area not characterized by intensive monoculture, with numerous grape varieties and the presence of a water source such as a river or the sea. Eric himself describes the terroir of Chateau La Franchaie as: “complex culture, small yields, but great identity.” Accompanied by his wife Alex, this talented and knowledgeable vigneron has set the goal of expressing the full viticultural potential of this dedicated territory.
Eric Dubois' winery covers five and a half hectares, rooted in soils composed of schist and clay, managed according to the principles of certified organic and biodynamic agriculture. The main varieties cultivated by Eric Dubois are those most representative of the area: Cabernet Franc for reds and Chenin Blanc for whites. These grape varieties are associated with other grapes such as Gamay, Grolleau, and Cabernet Sauvignon. The grapes, hand-picked, are not destemmed and are often subjected to carbonic maceration. All fermentations occur spontaneously through the action of indigenous yeasts, and the batches are processed in stainless steel tanks, ceramic containers, or sandstone amphorae. Throughout the entire winemaking process, the use of additives and enological aids, including sulfites, is excluded, and no filtration is carried out.
Eric Dubois Chateau La Franchaie is an extremely limited production consisting of just a few thousand bottles produced each year. These are labels with a strong identity and authentic character, telling the story of a unique territory and a passionate vigneron.
