Etienne Sauzet

The Domaine Etienne Sauzet is a historic and traditional estate, which has been present for several generations in the famous terroir of Puligny-Montrachet, a legendary place of the Côte de Beaune. Viticulture has dwelled in these lands since the time of Roman colonization, and the tradition has been carried on by the patient work of monks. Since the period of the High Middle Ages, the Dukes of Burgundy appreciated the wines of the Côte d’Or and played a decisive role in the development of the Burgundian vineyard. The denomination was recognized with the AOC in 1937, and today in the municipal territory of Puligny-Montrachet there are 17 Climat classified as Premier Cru and four Grand Cru: Montrachet, Chevalier-Montrachet, Batard-Montrachet, and Bienvenues-Montrachet.

Puligny-Montrachet is located in the southern part of the Côte de Beaune, a wonderful hilly area that extends for about twenty kilometers between Ladoix-Serrigny and Maranges, with an exposure facing east and southeast. The vineyards are situated at an altitude ranging from 230 to 330 meters above sea level, on composed of limestone or clay-limestone marls. The vineyards are cultivated according to local tradition, with a density that often exceeds 8,000 vines per hectare and very low yields, so as to bring to full maturity a few clusters with grapes that have rich and intense aromas. In this land, some of the most highly rated whites in the world are produced, made with the Chardonnay grape, which expresses itself with wines of extraordinary elegance, complexity, and remarkable longevity.
