Fontodi
The Fontodi winery is a splendid reality in the Chianti Classico area, located in the Panzano zone, within the famous Conca d’Oro, a wonderful area exposed to the south, always known for the excellent quality of its grapes. The estate has belonged to the Manetti family since 1968, who have been producing terracotta artifacts in this area for centuries, to which they later added the activity of vineyard cultivation and wine production. The project was born from a great love for this land and a deep knowledge of the characteristics of the territory. The Panzano area constitutes, in fact, a biodistrict that has chosen for many years to prioritize agriculture that respects the territory.
The estate covers a total area of over 170 hectares, of which 80 are dedicated to vine cultivation. The high altitude of the area, the soils composed of stony land, with a high percentage of galestro and a particularly cool climate, have proven to be particularly suitable for the cultivation of Sangiovese, which here expresses itself with particular finesse and elegance. The vineyards are managed in certified organic farming. In the countryside, no chemical products are used, and only compost made from manure from the company’s Chianina breeding and pruning waste is used for fertilization. Thanks to meticulous attention to vineyard cultivation, very ripe grapes with an intense aromatic profile are obtained.
The harvest is obviously done by hand, with a selection of the best bunches in the vineyard, which are then transported to vinification in small crates to maintain their integrity. The same philosophy is applied in the winery, where very delicate vinifications that respect the raw material are carried out, based on minimal human intervention. The structure has been designed on different levels in order to take advantage of the force of gravity, without resorting to pumps, which could compromise the quality of the musts and wines. The final result is wines with a typically territorial taste, characterized by a fresh and elegant profile.
