Francesco Cadinu

The winery of Francesco Cadinu is a family-run reality that produces artisanal wines in the splendid territory of Sardinia. The vine has dwelled on the island since ancient times and has always been linked to the local culture. In the center of the western Mediterranean, since the Bronze Age, Sardinia has hosted the Nuragic civilization and has been one of the first lands colonized by the Phoenicians, who between the 9th and 8th centuries B.C. created trading posts along the coasts of the island, founding Kaalis, Nora, and Tharros. Surely the Phoenicians also brought the culture of viticulture, which had belonged to the Caucasian and Middle Eastern area for millennia. However, during archaeological excavations conducted a few years ago at the site of Sa Osa, in the province of Oristano, grape seeds dating back 3200 years were found, demonstrating how vitis vinifera has been part of the island's heritage since the earliest times.

fruit of the work and experience of numerous generations of winemakers, who have dedicated themselves to enhancing these lands through the cultivation of the vine. Francesco's uncle, after learning the art of viticulture from his father-in-law, purchased an old vineyard in the 1950s in the locality of Fittiloghe, a Sardinian toponym meaning place of vines, which still today is part of the company's properties. To this parcel, others have been added over the following decades, and today the estate can count on an area of about 6 hectares, located in the Mamoiada area. The vineyards are situated at an altitude of about 650 meters above sea level and are managed according to principles that are very respectful of nature and the environment, in perfect harmony with a territory that is still wild.and known in Spain as Garnacha and in France as Grenache. We are in the heart of Barbagia, a mountainous area characterized by a cool and continental climate, which presents significant temperature variations between day and night, allowing for excellent grape ripening. The soils have been generated by the disintegration of ancient granite rocks and have a slightly acidic connotation. In this wonderful terroir, Francesco Cadinu produces honest wines with an authentic face, made with spontaneous fermentations and the use of only indigenous yeasts.
