Gaudio
Gaudio is the name of a Piedmontese winery located in the municipality of Vignale Monferrato. We are in the province of Alessandria, in the heart of the Monferrato Casalese hills. From here, you can enjoy a magnificent view that encompasses several municipalities, reaching as far as the Alps, where Monviso, Monte Rosa, and Cervino can be recognized on the horizon. Gaudio is a family-run production reality that was established in 1950, at a time when it was customary to sell the fruits of one's labor to wine merchants in large cities. The turning point came in 1973, when Amilcare decided to start building a new cellar, ideal for beginning to bottle and market their own wines. Since then, Gaudio has gradually become known in the area, selling its products to wine shops, restaurants, and private individuals, and starting to close a series of agreements with importers from other countries. Today, the Gaudio winery is modernly equipped and, alongside the production of typical local wines, also offers an interesting line of grappas, obtained from the pomace of the various cultivated grape varieties.
The Gaudio vineyards cover about 18 hectares and stretch over hills located in elevated positions, always very well exposed to the sun's rays. The terroir of this area is characterized by the presence of limestone and marine sediments, rich in fossil shell remains. Among the rows, classic local grape varieties are cultivated, such as Grignolino, Barbera, Freisa, Cortese, and Malvasia di Casorzo. Every operation, both in the vineyard and in the cellar, aims to obtain healthy and ripe grapes, trying not to waste what nature has provided throughout the year.
Every year, the Gaudio winery produces a wide range of products, where alongside the wines, from the youngest and most drinkable to the most prestigious crus, passing through the local classics, we also find a small selection of grappas. Well-crafted products, often characterized by an interesting quality-price ratio. Among the various bottles signed by Gaudio, special mention should be given to Grignolino, especially the “Bricco Mondalino”, andto the Barbera del Monferrato Superiore.
