Giass
Giass is a Milanese distillery born from the friendship of five partners. The love for distillates and the habit of sharing the moment of the aperitif together sparked the idea that eventually led to making the big leap. At the heart of the project is the desire to produce a great London Dry Gin, with a elegant and refined classic profile. The name of the distillery comes from the Milanese dialect “el giass”, meaning ice, a fundamental element of every good cocktail. The refined bottle with a wooden cap is decorated with a serigraphy that recalls the geometries of the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele, the heart of the city of Milan and always a place for the aperitif. The company logo is also a tribute to the city, particularly to the ancient fountains “le vedovelle” found in the historic center of Milan.
Everything began in 2015. On the occasion of the Milan Expo, when an exhibition area was set up in the old railway yard of Porta Romana, with containers converted into a temporary shop. In this occasion the five friends began to make the first trials, flavoring some Gins with various botanicals. The positive results encouraged them to continue down this path and to found a craft company, equipped with a small three-liter still to start making the first experiments. At the same time, research work on botanicals began, aiming to create a balanced, harmonious, and elegant aroma.
Today the distillery has a modern still that allows for the production of an excellently refined Gin. The recipe developed is based on 18 botanicals, which combine the classic tradition of great London Dry Gins with an original innovative touch. The complex bouquet is primarily based on a classic foundation made up of juniper berries, coriander seeds, angelica root, to which floral aromatic components are added, thanks to the presence of rose petals, chamomile flowers, violet flowers, orange flowers, and karkade. The fresh citrus fragrances are ensured by the use of Citrus verbena leaves, cardamom seeds, and lemon balm leaves. Finally, the woody and herbal notes are provided by cassia and thyme.
