Weingut Gottardi
Weingut Gottardi represents a winemaking reality from South Tyrol that has established itself over the years thanks to its incredible mastery in interpreting Pinot Noir. In 1986, the Gottardi family, wine merchants from Innsbruck of Italian origins, purchased 6 hectares of vineyard in Mazzon, a small village famous for Pinot Noir located just above Egna, within the municipality of Bolzano. In the following years, the family dedicated themselves to replanting the vineyards and in 1995 produced the first wines in the newly built modern winery. Today, at the helm of the estate is Alexander Gottardi, son of the founder Bruno, who since 1984 helped his father in the wine shop in Innsbruck and two years later supported him in starting the winemaking business.
Weingut Gottardi consists of 9 hectares of vineyards, exclusively dedicated to Pinot Noir. Until 2010, the Gottardi family also cultivated Chardonnay and Gewürztraminer, before deciding to focus exclusively on this noble black grape variety of Burgundian origin, also driven by national and international success of its wines. The vines are located in the Mazzon area, characterized by the presence of sandstone, reddish and yellow siltstones, limestones, marls, and dolomites in the soils, as well as a cool and sunny climate. The pruning technique adopted follows the Simonit & Sirch method, aimed at ensuring the plants a long and healthy life by making rational cuts on the young wood. In the winery, the winemaking approach is focused on maximum delicacy in the processing of the raw material, for example by moving the wine exclusively by gravity. Fermentations take place in stainless steel tanks while the subsequent aging occurs in French oak barrels, where malolactic fermentation also takes place.
As mentioned, the pride of the Weingut Gottardi winery is Pinot Noir, offered mainly in two different interpretations: a Riserva and a classic. Both labels rank among the highest expressions of Pinot Noir in Italy, endowed with exceptional charm and an irresistible fresh and juicy taste.
