Weingut Gottardi represents a South Tyrolean winery that has made a name for itself over the years with its incredible mastery in interpreting Pinot Noir. In 1986, the Gottardi, a family of wine merchants from Innsbruck with Italian roots, purchased six hectares of vineyards in Mazzon, a small hamlet famous for Pinot Noir located just above Egna, within the municipality of Bolzano. Over the next few years the family dedicated themselves to replanting the vineyards and in 1995 produced their first wines in the newly built modern winery. Today at the helm of the estate is Alexander Gottardi, son of founder Bruno, who as early as 1984 helped his father in the wine store in Innsbruck and two years later supported him in starting the winemaking business.
Weingut Gottardi consists of 9 hectares under vine, exclusively dedicated to Pinot Noir. Until 2010, the Gottardi family also raised Chardonnay and Gewürztraminer, and then decided to devote itself exclusively to this noble black grape variety of Burgundian origin, also driven by the national and international success of its wines. The vines are located in the Mazzon area, characterized by the presence in the soils of sandstone, reddish and yellow siltstone, limestone, marl and dolomite, as well as a cool and sunny climate. The pruning technique adopted follows the Simonit & Sirch method, aimed at ensuring a long and healthy life for the vines by making rational cuts on young wood. In the winery, the winemaking approach is aimed at maximum delicacy in the processing of the raw material, such as moving the wine exclusively by gravity. Fermentations take place in stainless steel tanks while subsequent aging takes place in French oak barrels, where malolactic fermentation also occurs.
As anticipated, the pride of the Weingut Gottardi winery is Pinot Noir, offered mainly in two different interpretations: a Riserva and a Classic. Both labels rank among the highest expressions of Pinot Noir in Italy, endowed with exceptional charm and an irresistible fresh and juicy taste.
