Heiwa Shuzo, located just outside the town of Kainan in Wakayama Prefecture, was founded in 1928. The Sagakura (Japanese for the sake brewery) was built within a millennia-old temple surrounded by mountains and abundant natural spring water. This privileged location, along with the rich history of tradition and spirituality of the area, gives the brewery a unique atmosphere. The name "Heiwa," meaning "peace," reflects the founders' desire to promote feelings of peace in the world after World War II. Since then, the brewery has distinguished itself for producing sake of the highest quality, with the constant support of the owner, Mr. Yamamoto, and his team of young and talented Kurabito (those who work in the Sakagura).

Heiwa Shuzo is situated in a valley surrounded by mountains that benefits from high precipitation, and thus a constant supply of water, called Koyasan Nansui, which flows from the Koyasan temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This incredibly soft and precious water is a fundamental element for producing premium sake. Heiwa has gained great popularity in Japan and abroad thanks to its "Kid" sake line, known for its playful and energetic profile, receiving the prestigious title of Sakagura of the Year at the International Wine Challenge for two consecutive years (2019 and 2020), an unprecedented achievement.

Additionally, the special range of sake "Tsuru-ume" has been created to reflect the quality of the numerous local products available in Wakayama Prefecture. By collaborating directly with Ume farmers, a type of Japanese plum, and Yuzu, a citrus variety, Heiwa Shuzo brings to life spectacular fruit-based Nihonshu (Japanese term for sake) that embody the freshness and authenticity of the local products of this region.
