Hepple Spirits
Hepple Spirits is an English distillery located in the wild and unspoiled area of Hepple, famous for the presence of a lush spontaneous flora of juniper shrubs. There could not have been a better place to found a distillery dedicated to the production of great Gin. The project was born in 2013, from the initiative of Valentine Warner, who brought the renowned bartender Nick Strangeway and the distiller Cairbry Hill to Hepple, in the Northumberland National Park, to meet Walter Riddell, owner of the Hepple estate. This fortunate meeting took place at a time when there was great international interest in Gin, which was experiencing a lively rediscovery, between innovative interpretations and the search for ancient recipes of tradition.
From the charm of the territory and the presence of juniper woods with their intoxicating scent, the idea was born to give voice and enhance this wonderful gift of nature, to transform it into the pure and authentic essence of Gin. To synthesize in a glass the aromatic richness of Hepple's nature, it was necessary to rethink the entire production process, to enhance the scents and aromas of juniper. To preserve all the essences of the precious berries, and to avoid compromising them with the use of excessively high temperatures, a processing method with vacuum distillation combined with other technical measures was chosen, which allowed for an extraction of extraordinary quality, with intense and pure juniper notes that maintain intact all the freshness and balsamic fragrance.
In 2014, Chris Garden, a renowned distiller who had decided to close his professional career, moved to Newcastle. Struck by the quality of the local juniper berries and fascinated by the challenge of a new project, he agreed to put his experience at the service of Gin Happle. The distillate is a true ode to juniper, the absolute protagonist of an aromatic palette completed by a rich and careful selection of refined botanicals, which harmoniously complete its aroma. In 2015, the first bottles were released, which were met with great enthusiasm by themore knowledgeable enthusiasts and by the international critics.
