Intipalka
In Peru, at the foot of the Andes, the Intipalka winery creates modern expressions with a international style, which are nonetheless defining their own territorial imprint. This wine reality, born in 2008 in the Santiago district, has grown over the years with dedication and ambition, demonstrating that even in areas where winemaking tradition is not rooted, excellent wines can be produced. In the Quechua language, traditionally spoken by the indigenous peoples of the Peruvian Andes, the word “intipalka” translates to “valley of the Sun”.
The vineyards of Intipalka are located in the Ica Valley, at 500 meters above sea level, in a kind of fertile desert formed mainly by deep clay soils rich in magnesium. In particular, in the foothill areas, the soils are primarily composed of granite, slate, and limestone, while the hilly areas show a greater presence of sand, limestone, and diatomites. The climate is generally cool due to the altitude and the presence of ocean breezes. In this pedoclimatic context, the the winery cultivates French-origin grape varieties Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Malbec, Tannat, Petit Verdot, Pinot Nero, Sauvignon Blanc, and Chardonnay. Only once the grapes have reached the right degree of ripeness is the manual harvest carried out, accompanied by careful selection. The vinifications take place in steel tanks or wooden barrels, depending on the label in question.
The varied production of the Intipalka winery, focused on red wines, is divided into 3 lines: the ‘Gran Reserva’, the ‘Reserva’, and the ‘Varietal’, to which a refreshing sparkling wine made using the Charmat method is added. While the first two selections consist of blends, the ‘Varietal’ range exclusively includes monovarietal expressions, processed only in steel to bring out the varietal characters.
