Jean-Claude Ramonet
The Domaine Jean-Claude Ramonet is one of the most important landmarks for lovers of Burgundy wines. It is a historic estate of the Côte de Beaune, located in Chassagne-Montrachet, a mythical place for all enthusiasts of great white wines made from Chardonnay. The famous village is situated between Puligny-Montrachet and Santenay. The origins of the domaine date back to the 1930s, when Pierre Ramonet was already supplying the best French restaurants and exporting wine all over the world. Today, the estate is managed by Noël and Jean-Claude Ramonet. Noël takes care of the vineyard, while his brother focuses on the cellar, winemaking, and aging.
The territory of Chassagne-Montrachet consists of 55 Climats classified as Premier Cru and 3 Grand Cru: Montrachet, Bâtard-Montrachet, Criots-Bâtard Montrachet. Together with Puligny, it is the most prestigious place in the entire Côte d’Or for the production of intense, complex, and long-lived white wines and some excellent Pinot Noir. The area The Appellation is located at an altitude between 220 and 325 meters above sea level. The soils are predominantly limestone-based, composed of marls rich in skeleton, stones, and veins of sand. These are highly suited lands, which give the wines extraordinary finesse and elegance. The Domaine Jean-Claude Ramonet extends over 17 hectares, divided into many parcels located in some of the most important Climats of the Appellation. A collection of small plots, which allows for the enhancement of all the nuances of the terroir.
Agronomic management is carried out traditionally, seeking to maintain a proper balance with the surrounding environment and the ecosystem as a whole. As per the ancient tradition of Burgundy, the vineyards are planted with very high density of vines per hectare, forcing the plants to dig deep with their roots in search of water and nutrients. In this way, the production per plant is naturally low, and thanks to thinning, each vine brings to maturity few clusters of the highest quality. The vinifications are handled withextreme attention, and the aging takes place in French oak barriques.
