Weger Josef
Josef Weger is the name of a historic winery in the mountains of Cornaiano, near San Michele Appiano, now managed by Johannes, who represents the sixth generation of a brilliant family of winemakers. The winery was founded in 1820 and, since then, has remained family-run, based on just 3 hectares of owned land, to which a few others are now added on lease. In almost two centuries of history, this virtuous wine production reality of Alto Adige has remained faithful to the combination of passion and expertise, playing a not secondary role in enhancing the regional enological excellences.
Josef Weger was a pioneer of quality viticulture in Alto Adige, after a long experience as a wine merchant. The centuries-old cellars carved into the rock are still today, as they were then, the cradle of whites and reds in perfect Alto Adige style, characterized by great immediacy and expressive clarity. The vineyards are cultivated with both indigenous and international grapes, capable of reaching very high quality thanks to the clayey-morainic and calcareous soils and the strong temperature fluctuations that characterize this area south of Bolzano.
