Karukera is the most important French distillery in the production of rum. Being rich of the Caribbean artisan tradition, it is located in Guadalupe, in the city of Sainte-Marie, the first place where Christopher Columbus touched down in the 1493’s exploration. In this area the 70 hectares of plantations of the distillery lie in the Domaine du Marquisat de Sainte-Marie. It is a milestone in the history of the island: on the one hand, looking at scenarios where the rum is born, the Domaine has its origins in the late nineteenth century, while on the other, looking at the name of the rum, the denomination Karukera refers to one that Indians gave to Guadalupe. The collection of these valuable agricole rum Karukera arises exclusively from autochthonous sugar cane juice under the rays of a warm and sunny climate, which favors the maturation through really special and colorful aromatic nuances. The bottling takes place at the distillery itself, which is called Espérance, making it an excellence in quality and authenticity, being the fruit of artisan experience that has been handed down from generation to generation.
