Hansen Knut
Through high-quality artisanal gins, the German production reality of Knut Hansen aims to showcase the Nordic expression of this famous distillate, produced from a selection of ingredients sourced from the Northern European territory. It all began in 2016 from an idea conceived by the young entrepreneurs from Hamburg, Kaspar Hagedorn and Martin Spieker, who in just one year, in 2017, bottled their first gin at the Dollerup distillery. In 2019, the entire process was moved to the first owned distillery in Meistermeile, Hamburg, and soon Knut Hansen became the most important artisanal gin in all of Germany, excluding those produced by companies. The name was chosen to pay tribute to the legendary Norwegian sailor Knut Hansen, also depicted on the label, who traveled the world starting from the port of Hamburg without allowing anyone to stop him.
The gins from the Knut Hansen distillery are crafted using a selection of high-quality botanicals, most of which come from Northern Germany. For example, the apples are grown south of the Elbe River, basil and cucumbers come from the family greenhouse while rose petals are collected from the Baltic Sea dam. The processing process consists of a delicate extraction of the aromas from the botanicals followed by as many as 4 slow distillations, with the final bottling done by hand. Sustainability in production is a key aspect for Kaspar and Martin, who use green electricity in processing, 100% recyclable ceramics for the bottles, and recycled cardboard for packaging. Moreover, the caps are made from natural cork from Portugal.
The production of Knut Hansen focuses on Dry Gins, made without the addition of artificial flavors. These are distillates with a fresh and bold taste that condense the aromatic essence of the botanicals grown in Northern Europe. These distillates can be enjoyed neat or used in the preparation of premium cocktails.
