At Ktima Ligas, people make the difference. We are in the North of Greece, in Macedonia, where nature is thick and uncontaminated, where the land is alive and the vine is eager to multiply. Since 1985, when he finished his studies of oenology in France, until about ten years ago it was Thomas to govern the whole hut, then his passion so deep and pure was passed from father to son. Today it is Melissanthe, followed by his father, to lead the reins, but do not think it was easy to win the trust of Papa Thomas. Before touching the grapes, it had to be really ready and formed. So Melissanthe studied extensively around Europe, getting to know all the tricks of the trade.

Melissanthe, once back home, decided to focus everything on the vineyard, to make itself heard for the conscious agriculture practiced at Ktima Ligas, far beyond the borders of the Peloponnese. They have always embraced the organic principles in the vineyard, but they could go much further. More than organic, mention some back labels. Melissanthe’s answer is permaculture, which has the ambition to create sustainable and durable production systems in the name of the principles exalted by the great philosopher-farmer Masanobu Fukuoka. This speech transferred to the vineyards of Ligas means: leave to the plants the freedom to do what they want, tall grass, competition between vines and other aromatic plants. A miniature forest, untouched, wild, pure. The only sprays used are those containing infusions of herbs, created manually in the cellar, as natural medicine of the vine. The soils here are rich in clay and limestone, characterized by excellent drainage. Permaculture and its so gentle and delicate making, results in a deep and sincere crispness in the glass, found in every glass, both red and white.

Even in the cellar you follow the philosophy of non-interventionism, you use only the must flower, working only to drain, fermentations are spontaneous and activated only by yeasts naturally present on the skins and refinements take place in containers chosen to enhance the intrinsic characteristics and not to suffocate them. Here at home Ligas are the native varieties to rule, the Assyrtiko, the Roditis and the Xinomavro, but with an energetic look elevated to the second, eager to express the secrets of this land from ancient history. Several years after the beginning of his personal adventure at Ktima Ligas, Melissanthe can be considered satisfied, but we are sure that the surprises on his part are not finished yet.
