La Reine Pedauque
La Reine Pedauque is a Burgundy production reality that can boast some of the most prestigious AOC of the Côte d’Or. The headquarters is located in Meursault, in the heart of the Côte de Beaune, and the winery began its activity in 1936 with the aim of creating a range of fine wines for the Paris restaurant “La Rotisserie de la Reine Pedauque,” whose name derives from a novel by Anatole France. The Domaine has always distinguished itself for its innovative approach and attention to market needs. In fact, it was the first winery, in 1949, to organize visits aimed at consumers, as well as one of the first to embrace large distribution in 1981. Over the years, La Reine Pedauque has become increasingly famous, both nationally and internationally. The name of the winery seems to derive from a legend concerning a queen of the High Middle Ages (“reine” means queen in French) who died at the foot of the hill of Corton, a famous cru of the Côte de Beaune.
The only varieties cultivated by the Domaine are Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, as per the tradition of the area, with a small percentage of Aligoté. The 4 hectares available to the winery, distributed between the Côte de Beaune and the Côte de Nuits, are planted on heterogeneous soils, mainly consisting of clay and limestone. Every agricultural practice and operation, from soil work to harvest, is carefully considered, aimed at achieving the maximum qualitative and productive result with an eye to environmental sustainability. The winemaking process includes spontaneous fermentations, with whites worked in oak barrels and steel tanks and reds subjected to macerations on the skins for two or three weeks, using gentle extraction techniques.
The prominent AOCs of the Domaine include Chassagne-Montrachet, Puligny-Montrachet, and Meursault for the Côte de Beaune and Echezeaux, Vosnee-Romanée, Clos de Vougeot, and Gevrey Chambertin for the Côte de Nuits, with labels also coming from the areas of Chablis and Mâcon. An excellent, wide anddiversified, capable of telling a small story of one of the most noble wine-growing areas in the entire globe.
