La Vedetta
La Vedetta was founded in 2016 following a decision to go against the grain: to leave their international careers and return to the hills of Barbaresco. Marco Viglino, who grew up in the Langhe and trained abroad, and Swantje Rausch, a German, chose to revive the family vineyards and build a project that would, above all, reflect who they are. Three and a half hectares of vineyards, a handful of wines, no legacy to live up to: just the freedom to make wine without preconceptions. The winery is situated in one of the most distinctive areas of the appellation, at Cà Grossa, a cru located halfway between Roncagliette and Rio Sordo, where the view stretches across the amphitheatre of Martinenga and the rows of Rabajà.
La Vedetta cultivates its vineyards using organic methods, with the stated aim of preserving the land for future generations. At Cà Grossa, two hectares of Nebbiolo vines facing east-southeast are planted on marly and calcareous soils with a significant sandstone component, which lends the wines a distinctive aromatic finesse. In Sarasino, a hamlet of Castagnole delle Lanze, one and a half hectares of Barbera d'Asti benefit from full south-facing exposure and a warm, breezy microclimate, with soils similar to those of Barbaresco. In the cellar, the philosophy is one of simplicity: minimal intervention, respect for the grape variety and the terroir.
La Vedetta’s wines stem from a desire to let the terroir speak for itself, unfiltered. On the nose, the aromas are varietal and distinct, a direct reflection of the marly and limestone soils that characterise both vineyards. On the palate, freshness is the common thread running through all the wines, alongside a savoury quality that reflects the unique composition of the soils. Straightforward, no-nonsense wines, much like their makers, yet capable of a complexity that unfolds over time in the glass.
