The word Potazzine in Montalcino is used to indicate the great tits, lively and colorful birds that inhabit the countryside of Tuscany; by extension this word is the term of endearment used by parents and grandparents to call their little girls. In fact, Le Potazzine are Viola and Sofia, the two daughters of Giuseppe e Gigliola Gorelli, who in 1993 founded the eponymous winery.
Giuseppe, agricultural expert and oenologist, is the soul and the engine of the company and personally follows, with passion and competence, all the processing stages in the vineyard and in the winery, following criteria very natural, without shortcuts.
The estate consists of 5 hectares of vineyards, 3 of which in La Prata, close to the cellar and two further south in La Torre, all located on land registered as Brunello di Montalcino. Giuseppe, after many studies and experiments, has developed a process for the production of an exceptional Brunello, stirring artfully the grapes of 2 farms.
The building of the winery, recently built, is located beneath an old stone farmhouse: it is 400 square meters, the place for all the stages of winemaking and aging, which is carried out in oak casks. Wines produced by Le Potazzine winery, Brunello di Montalcino and Rosso di Montalcino, are distinguished by character and personality and have become a symbol of Italy in the world.
