Domaine Leon Barral

The Domaine of Leon Barral, led since 1990 by Didier Barral, fully belongs to all the historic artisanal realities that have become, through their production philosophy, ambassadors of the territory and the area. We are in Languedoc-Roussillon, in the southern French lands, more precisely in Lenthèric, a small village that lies at the foot of a gentle hill. For several generations, the Barral family has tended to its vineyards with very sensitive care, focused on biodynamic principles and absolute respect for nature. An approach that has identified it as one of the pioneers of the artisanal movement and that still today represents a symbol of the entire territory. A philosophy that goes beyond biological and biodynamic thinking, a radical philosophy, a choice of life, which every year rewards the winery with products of strong territorial identity that achieve great success.

The vineyards of Leon Barral extend over an area of about 25 hectares, immersed in the biodiversity of the place. Within the estate, there is a rich quantity of plants and animals, such as cows and black pigs from Bigorre. The lands, composed of steep soils of schist and slate, are cultivated exclusively with organic fertilizers, in total absence of synthetic chemistry. The vines, aged between 30 and 80 years and trained using the Gobelet system, host the typical grapes of the area, namely Cinsault, Syrah, Carignan, Grenache, Mourvedre, Terret Blanc, Terret Girs, Viognier, and Russane. In the winery, alcoholic fermentations occur spontaneously in cement tanks through native yeasts, malolactic fermentations are completed in wood, and aging takes place in barriques, without filtration, clarification, and with a negligible addition of sulfites.

The wines of Leon Barral are typically territorial expressions that describe the region of Languedoc-Roussillon in a simple, straightforward, and genuine manner. They have a fresh, dynamic, and pleasantly tannic profile, characterized by high expressiveness, a strong personality, and a marked character. Wines of the territory, free and typical.
